Epic domination
A strategic war game with the speed and variability of a deck-builder
Epic Domination captures the feeling of being caught up in an immense struggle for world domination, yet can be played in 30 minutes. At the beginning of the game, each player controls a single board piece composed of sixteen hexagonal spaces, which combine to form the board upon which war shall be waged. Two of those spaces contain cities, key positions to which new units can be recruited. The game ends when either one player controls the majority of cities on the board, or when one player’s reserves run out and that player can no longer recruit new units.
Although Epic Domination’s mechanics are intuitive and easy to teach, the game offers a wide range of strategic possibilities. Games with new players should be played with the front side of the board pieces, but more experienced players may flip the pieces over to form a board that includes elements such as navies, wizards and gold mines.
A light fantasy theme infuses the game. Aerial units are griffins and dragons, while an optional deck of magic spell cards adds an unknown element for experienced players.
I have worked on designing Epic Domination since Christmas 2015, when my aunt gave me a Risk set and I immediately cannibalized its pieces for my own game. After dozens of games of play testing and innumerable small rules tweaks, I've finally produced a polished game that I'm ready to sell. Epic Domination is currently in the process of being pitched to publishers.
